Lessons at my studio are either 30 minute or hour long weekly sessions. I use varied teaching materials which are chosen with each individual student in mind. I work with the ABRSM Syllabus when preparing students for examinations.

Taking exams can be very positive, it gives pupils something specific to work towards and gives a structure to learning. Progress can be measured clearly also. Of course, exams are not compulsory, some of my students play for pleasure and progress well that way too. All lessons are taught with having fun and enjoying making music in mind.

Piano Lessons

Students have the opportunity to take ABRSM examinations, to perform in concerts and play together; working on duets with myself and other learners. We make music in all styles and I encourage creativity, I always enjoy working on pieces that the student may have suggested we work on too. Variety makes it more fun and develops versatile musicians. I have a range of students from complete beginners to Grade 8 students and their ages range from 5 years old to retirement age.

Flute and Clarinet Lessons

Students have the opportunity to take ABRSM examinations, to perform in the concerts and play in an ensemble setting; They get the opportunity to play duets with other woodwind students and also have regular piano accompaniment from myself. Having a teacher who is a proficient pianist is a massive bonus when preparing for exams and concerts.

A lot of my students are members of bands and local orchestras which is fantastic for them. They have the opportunity to play in lots of different styles in their lessons and outside of them too. The students’ ages range from Primary School age to retirement age and they are of all abilities.

Guitar

I teach Folk guitar and encourage the students to choose their own repertoire. We play pieces that range from pop, to rock to retro to folk and more. I always enjoy adding little extras to the pieces using guitar tablature to make them sound more like the original piece. We join with a local guitar group when performing at the concerts.

Music Theory

Knowledge of Music Theory is an important part of being a musician. We offer lessons specifically in Music Theory if requested and always incorporate aspects of theory learning into our practical lessons.
